support has spoken that since DOT and Tap are Amazon
Echo peripherals hence only those users will be able to buy both or any of them
who have Amazon Echo purchased wiz, these products can be ordered only through Amazon
Echo using Alexa’s services say a voice command saying buy a DOT or buy a
Tap .
About the devices:
Amazon DOT is a small extension to Amazon Echo and it is primarily
used to increase range of Amazon Echo’s mic to other rooms from where it cannot
directly listen to the users and DOT, like Echo is always ON which means we can
speak directly into it. However if we want privacy and don’t want a mic to
listen to us every time there is a physical mute button on top of Amazon DOT.
It serves analogous to how a router serves to a modem. It is an external link
for voice sending and receiving and is not a standalone device. It is always on
so it doesn’t work on batteries, but it needs a power connection just like Echo.
Besides, it is very small, its speaker too is weak and it needs to be docked
into a bigger speaker to listen to it clearly.
Amazon Tap however is a partially standalone device. Like DOT it
connects to Amazon Echo for services but is larger in size and has its own
battery so it is portable and needs to be on the same Wi-Fi as Amazon Echo to
connect with the one and only Alexa. As DOT is always on and listens for voice
activation command, TAP is not always on but users need to tap on it and then
give a voice command which goes to Alexa and Echo and from there tap gets back
the response and replies to the user. It also acts as a portable Bluetooth
speaker by connecting wirelessly to a cell phone and can be used as a portable
speaker just like beats pill. Tap is for those who want mobility as well as are
concerned with privacy and DOT is for home usage. Both need to be ordered using
Alexa and as DOT is a smaller one and Tap is a medium device between tap
and DOT, pries too are in the same proportion.
