How to Update Kindle Fire HD & HDX Devices?

Updating Fire HD & HDX using the device itself

  • Before any update, you need to check the version of the software that you are using on your tablet. For checking this just swipe down the top of the screen and click on Settings > device options > System updates. At the top of the device, it should be like that your device is running on Fire OS.   • Normally when your device is connected to wi-fi, it will start the update automatically.
  • In case the update hasn’t been downloaded or installed, you can trigger it yourself. Go to Settings > device options > system Updates > Check now/update. The last option will appear only if update has been downloaded already.
  • Now your device will restart in order to apply that update. After restarting the device, you will get the message of installing the updates.

Updating Fire HD & HDX devices using PC or Mac

  • If you are using a Mac with OS X 10.5 or later, ten you will need to download and install Android File Transfer first.
  • Go to the Fire and Kindle Software Update page. Scroll down to find your specific device and click it. Now download the software update found on the page. In case of have any issue, you can take Kindle Fire Support Help.
  • Turn on and unlock your device, then connect it to your PC or Mac using USB cable.
  • On your computer open the device driver called Fire or if you are using Mac and have installed Android File Transfer, the program should open automatically after you connect your device. Drag the file of software update that you downloaded earlier and move it to the internal storage folder on the drive. Do not put the software update in any other folder located on the fire drive.   • When the file transfer will complete, disconnect your device. On the device, swipe down from the top of the screen, the click on Settings > device options > System updates > Update to start the installation process. After this your tablet will restart automatically and afterward you will receive a message saying that it is installing the system updates.
